Working with LMC Design Rod Hunt illustrated the 2009 & 2010 Visitors Map for Chessington World of Adventures Theme Park.
The key aims were to simplify the complex layout of the park to create an accurate & easy navigation tool for visitors, to be colourful, fun & appealing to the target family audience & to be easily updatable for the inclusion of future rides & attractions.
Rod made use of extensive photo reference from a site visit, Chessington's own image library, as well as using satellite photography. From that he drew a detailed A2 sized pencil rough. One of the main inspirations of Rod's design was the classic London Underground map, aplying it's clarity & simplicity of layout to a very busy & compex map design.
With only minor amendments & additional details he proceeded to the final artwork which was executed in Adobe Illustrator, ensuring any future updates were straight forward. For the 2010 season the new Wild Asia & African Savannah Experience attractions were added to the map, as well as re-theming of other areas of the park.
